# AI Study Generation

> Generate a structured Bible study from text, a document, an image, or an audio recording.

The AI study generator creates a fully structured study note from source material you provide. Paste a sermon transcript, upload documents, snap a photo of notes, import audio, or record audio — the AI extracts the key themes, cross-references scripture, and produces a study you can save and edit.

<Note>
  AI study generation is a premium feature. [Upgrade to premium](/account/premium) to access it.
</Note>

## Supported input types

| Input | Formats |
| - | - |
| Pasted text | Any plain text or markdown |
| Document | PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), markdown |
| Image | JPEG, PNG — the AI reads text from the image |
| Audio | MP3, MP4, WAV, AAC, M4A, FLAC — transcribed then studied |
| Live recording | Record directly in the app (up to 2 hours) |

<Note>
  Generated studies follow your active study preferences and reader translation where supported. For example, RV1909 study output is generated in Spanish. AI features also include content-safety checks before generated or synced study content is published.

## Generate a study

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the generate screen">
    From the **Studies** tab, tap the **+** button and choose **AI-generated**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your input">
    Select how you want to provide source material:

    * **Paste text** — type or paste content directly
    * **Import file** — pick a document from your device
    * **Photo** — take or choose a photo containing text
    * **Record audio** — tap the microphone to record; transcription runs on-device
    * **Import audio** — pick an existing audio file from your device
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a title and hashtags (optional)">
    Give your study a title and add topic hashtags. These can also be edited after generation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap Generate">
    The AI processes your input and builds the study note. Generation typically takes 15–60 seconds depending on content length. You do not have to wait on this screen — see [Leave the app while it generates](#leave-the-app-while-it-generates).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and save">
    The generated study opens in the editor. Review the content, make any edits, then tap **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Leave the app while it generates

Generation runs on Seed Scroll's servers, not on your phone, so it keeps going after you leave the screen. Lock your phone or go read something else — you get a notification when your study is ready, and another if it could not be finished. Opening the app from that notification takes you straight to the finished study.

If you are still in the app when it finishes, your phone gives a short buzz and the study opens.

<Note>
  These alerts are always delivered — they are not affected by the push notification categories in Reader Settings, since they are about work you started yourself. See [Notifications](/features/notifications).
</Note>

## Generate from Bible references

You can also start AI study generation from Bible references you are already using:

* Tap the **+ icon** beside a single search result, then choose **AI-generated**.
* Select multiple search results, tap **Study**, then choose **AI-generated**.
* From **Cross-References**, choose one or more related verses and tap **Study**.
* From **Studies → Saved → Bible verses**, start a study from a saved verse bookmark.
* At the end of a Bible chapter, choose the chapter study action or use the Chapter Guide to start a deeper AI study.

Seed Scroll creates a starter prompt from the selected reference or references, then opens the AI generation screen for review before you generate the study.

## Study preferences

In **Reader Settings**, choose a study style and preferences such as simple, guided, or deeper study. These preferences influence AI-generated studies, titles, hashtags, and reading plans.

You can also expand or improve existing AI-generated notes later by adding more source material or asking for a focused refinement.

## Tips for better results

<Tip>
  Longer, richer input produces better studies. A full sermon transcript or detailed passage commentary gives the AI more to work with than a few sentences.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  For audio recordings, a quiet environment improves transcription accuracy. The transcription runs entirely on-device — your audio is never uploaded.
</Tip>

## File size limits

Individual files must be under 20 MB. Audio recordings are capped at 2 hours. If your file exceeds these limits, split it into smaller sections before importing.
