# Bookmarks and Saved

> Bookmark verses, studies, and public notes, then organize them into saved collections.

Bookmarks let you save verses, your study notes, and public notes for later. Open them from the **Saved** tab in **Studies**.

## What you can bookmark

| Item | Where it saves |
| - | - |
| Bible verses | **Bible verses** collection |
| Bible chapters | **Bible verses** collection |
| Your study notes | **Studies** collection |
| Public notes | **Studies** collection |
| Saved Verse Images | **Verse images** collection |

Seed Scroll creates the built-in **Bible verses**, **Studies**, and **Verse images** collections automatically. You can also create your own collections.

## Bookmark a verse or chapter

You can bookmark verses from the reader, directly from search results, or from cross-references. You can also bookmark a whole chapter from the end-of-chapter actions in the Bible Reader.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open a verse or search result">
    In the **Bible Reader**, long-press a verse to open the verse study panel. From **Search**, find a verse result instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the bookmark icon">
    Tap the bookmark icon to save the verse.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a label">
    Pick an existing hashtag label, choose **No label**, or create a new label with a color.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Return from Saved">
    Open **Studies → Saved → Bible verses** and tap the saved verse or chapter to jump back to that exact reference and translation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Bookmarked verses can show a small colored marker in the reader. The marker uses the color of the selected hashtag label.

## Bookmark search results and cross-references

From the **Search** screen, use the **bookmark icon** beside a result to save that single verse.

To save several results at once, tap the multi-select icon, choose the verses, then tap **Bookmark**. Choose the bookmark label once, and Seed Scroll applies it to the selected verses.

From **Cross-References**, you can bookmark one related verse or select several cross-references and apply the same bookmark label to all selected verses.

## Verse bookmarks and translations

A verse bookmark marks a **canonical verse reference** — book, chapter and verse — not a translation-specific copy of that verse. Bookmarking John 3:16 in KJV+ bookmarks John 3:16 itself.

This has several consequences worth knowing:

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The bookmark indicator follows you across translations">
    A verse you bookmarked while reading one translation still shows as bookmarked when you read it in another. The indicator reflects the verse, not the translation you saved it from.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="You cannot bookmark the same verse twice in different translations">
    Because the bookmark is the canonical reference, saving a verse you already bookmarked in another translation does not create a second bookmark. There is one bookmark per verse.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The translation you saved from is remembered">
    Each bookmark keeps the translation it was created in as saved-from metadata, and the wording as it read at the time is preserved on the bookmark card. Switching your reading translation does not rewrite what a saved bookmark shows.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Opening a bookmark returns you to its translation">
    Opening a saved verse takes you to the reader in the translation the bookmark was saved from. If a bookmark has no saved-from translation recorded, the reader stays in whatever translation you are currently reading.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

<Note>
  Bookmarks behave differently from highlights and other annotations tied to text positions. A canonical verse reference survives a translation change; a position inside a specific translation's wording does not.
</Note>

### What QA should expect

* Bookmarking a verse in one translation shows the bookmark indicator on that verse in every translation.
* Re-saving the same verse from a different translation does not produce a duplicate.
* A bookmark card keeps the wording from the translation it was saved in, even after switching translations.
* Opening a bookmark opens its saved-from translation.
* Bookmarks created by older app versions, which stored the translation as part of the bookmark's identity, are read as canonical references and keep their original translation as saved-from metadata.

## Labels and collections are not the same thing

These two are easy to mix up, and they do different jobs.

| | Collection | Bookmark label |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | A place saved items live | A colored tag on a saved verse |
| What goes in it | Verses, chapters, studies, verse images | Verses only |
| How many at once | An item sits in the collections you file it into | One label per bookmarked verse |
| Where you see it | **Studies → Saved** | On the verse in the reader, as a colored marker |

A collection holds things. A label describes a verse and lets you filter within a collection.

<Note>
  The `#hashtags` you see on someone else's public study are that creator's own topic tags, describing what they wrote about. They are not your labels, and they do not file anything into your collections. Bookmarking a study puts it in your **Studies** collection regardless of what the creator tagged it with.
</Note>

## Use bookmark labels

Verse bookmarks can be grouped with colored hashtag labels such as **Key verse**, **Promise**, **Warning**, or your own custom labels.

You can:

* create a new label while bookmarking a verse
* assign a color to the label
* move labels into folders
* filter saved items by label inside a collection
* remove a bookmark without deleting the label

## Bookmark notes

Study note and public note cards include a bookmark icon.

* Tap the bookmark icon to quick-save or remove the note.
* Long-press the bookmark icon to choose specific collections.
* Create a new collection from the picker when needed.

If a saved public note or deleted local note cannot be loaded, Seed Scroll shows the saved snapshot title and preview when available.

## Manage saved collections

Open **Studies → Saved** to view your collections.

From there you can:

* open a collection
* tap a saved verse or chapter to return to it in the Bible Reader
* edit a saved verse label or color
* start a manual or AI study from a saved verse
* create a custom collection
* rename custom collections
* delete a collection and its saved bookmarks
* filter collection items by hashtag
* open **Verse images** to manage saved scripture art

<Note>
  The built-in **Bible verses**, **Studies**, and **Verse images** collections are system collections. They organize quick-saved content by type.
