# Study Notes

> Create personal study notes, tag them with hashtags, and link them to specific Bible verses.

Study notes are your personal library of insights tied to scripture. You can write notes, tag them with `#hashtags`, attach them to specific verses, and organize them into a searchable collection.

For a lighter-weight verse response, use [quick reflections](/features/verse-study-panel#quick-reflections) from the verse study panel.

## Quick reflections vs. study notes

Use a quick reflection when you want to capture a short thought directly on one verse. Use a study note when you want a fuller, hashtagged, editable study that can connect multiple passages or be shared as a standalone note.

You can turn a saved quick reflection into a new study note or add it to an existing one.

## Create a note

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Studies tab">
    Tap **Studies** in the bottom navigation bar to reach your notes home screen. See [Studies Home](/features/studies-home) for the full tab overview.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the Add button">
    Tap the floating **Add** button and choose **Manual** to open the note editor, or choose **AI-generated** to draft a study with AI. The expanded action menu appears on a soft glass backing so the actions stay readable over notes and quick reflections.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write your note">
    Type your content in the editor. You can write free-form text, paste scripture, or use the AI generation tool to draft a structured study from source material.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add hashtags">
    Type `#` anywhere in your note to attach topic tags (e.g., `#grace`, `#salvation`, `#john`). Hashtags organize your notes into browsable topics.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tag verses">
    Link your note to one or more Bible verses using the verse picker. Tagged verses appear as chips on the note card so you can jump directly to that passage.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Tap **Save**. Your note is stored locally and synced to your account if you're signed in.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Start a study from search

Search results can seed a new study without leaving the search screen.

* Tap the **+ icon** beside one verse to start from that verse.
* Use multi-select, choose several verses, then tap **Study** to start from all selected references.
* Choose **Manual** to create an editable note with those verses already inserted.
* Choose **AI-generated** to draft a study centered on those references.

## Organize with hashtags

Every `#hashtag` in a note becomes a topic you can browse. From the Studies home screen, tap any hashtag to see all notes tagged with it. You can follow hashtag collections created by other users too.

## Who can see a study

A study you write is **private**. It stays that way until you publish it — nobody sees it in the meantime.

There are two different ways to let someone else read one, and they are not the same thing.

### Publish it

Publishing makes a study public. It appears in the feed of people who follow you, on your public profile, and in Discover, where anyone can find it.

Open the study and use the share menu to make it public.

### Send a link

Sending a link gives the study to the people you send it to, and to nobody else. It does **not** publish the study, put it in anyone's feed, or add it to your profile.

A private study can be shared this way. Because the link points at a synced copy, sharing needs an account.

<Note>
  Publishing and link-sharing both require a free account. Studies written in guest mode stay on your device and cannot be shared at all — see [Guest mode](/getting-started/guest-mode).
</Note>

## Four things that are easy to confuse

| Action | What it does | Who sees it |
| - | - | - |
| **Publish** | Makes your study public | Your followers, your profile, Discover |
| **Share a link** | Sends this study to particular people | Only whoever you send the link to |
| **Bookmark** | Saves someone else's study, or your own, for later | Only you |
| **Copy to My Notes** | Creates your own editable copy of a public study | Only you, until you publish your copy |

## Copy a public study

When you find a public study in the feed, tap **Copy to My Notes** to create your own editable copy in your Studies library.

The copy is yours to change. **The original creator's study is not affected**, and copying does not publish anything of yours.
