# Verse Study Panel

> Open a verse-level study workspace for quick reflections, bookmarks, cross-references, historical context, and original-language tools.

The verse study panel is the focused workspace for one verse. Use it when you want to respond to a passage, check related study tools, or save something without leaving the reader.

## Open the panel

Long-press a verse in the **Bible Reader**. The panel opens at the bottom of the screen.

On tablet layouts, tap a verse to open the panel in a side rail next to the reader. This keeps the passage visible while you explore verse-level tools. On desktop web, the same panel appears in the desktop study rail.

From the panel, you can move between verse-level tools such as notes, bookmarks, saved verse images, cross-references, word studies, interlinear text, community activity, video teachings, and historical context.

## Cross-references in the panel

The cross-reference tab adapts by device:

* On phones, tap **View all Cross-References** to open the full cross-reference screen with filtering, bookmark actions, and study actions.
* On tablets and desktop, the panel shows compact cross-reference previews. Tap a related verse to load it in the reader without closing the panel.
* After opening a related verse on tablet or desktop, use **Back to original verse** to return to the verse you started from.

## Compare the verse across translations

Tap **Compare** in the panel's action row to see the verse you opened rendered in every translation available on your device.

This comparison is verse-based. To read two different passages side by side instead, use [Compare Passages](/features/compare-passages) from the reader.

See [Compare Translations](/features/compare-translations) for which translations appear and how verses that are missing or numbered differently are handled.

## Quick reflections

Quick reflections are short, verse-specific notes. They are separate from full study notes, so you can capture a thought without building a larger study.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open a verse">
    Long-press the verse you want to reflect on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write your reflection">
    Use the quick reflection field to write a thought, prayer, observation, or question.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Tap **Save**. The reflection stays attached to that verse.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose visibility">
    Keep the reflection private, or sign in and switch it to public when you want others to see it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

After saving a quick reflection, you can turn it into a larger study:

* tap **New study** to start a study note from the reflection
* tap **Add to existing** to append it to another study
* delete the reflection if you no longer need it

<Note>
  You must save a reflection before changing its public/private visibility or turning it into study-note content.
</Note>

## Chapter Guide

The Chapter Guide appears near the end of a chapter in the Bible Reader. It gives premium users a scoped AI helper for questions about the current chapter.

Use it for questions such as:

* **Summarize this chapter**
* **Who is speaking?**
* **Where is this happening?**
* **Key people & places**

Answers stay limited to the current chapter. If your question needs broader interpretation or devotional application, Seed Scroll can help you start a full AI study instead.

<Note>
  Chapter Guide requires Seed Scroll Plus and follows your AI feature setting.
</Note>

## Saved Verse Images

Tap **Images** in the verse study panel header to create scripture art from the current verse. Choose a curated background, pick a font, then save or share the image.

Saved images appear in **Studies → Saved → Verse images**. See [Saved Verse Images](/features/saved-verse-images) for the full workflow.

## Historical context

Historical context shows reviewed, source-backed background notes for supported passages. It focuses on the people, places, setting, culture, and key terms behind the text.

When context is available, open the **Historical context** tab in the verse study panel. Seed Scroll loads prepared notes for that passage.

Historical context can include:

| Section | What it explains |
| - | - |
| Summary | A concise overview of the background for the passage |
| Author and audience | Who wrote or received the text, when the source material supports it |
| Date and setting | Time period and situational background |
| Geography and culture | Places, customs, and cultural details |
| Key terms | Important words or ideas from the source material |
| Citations | Source excerpts used for the summary |

<Note>
  Historical context is not available for every verse. If Seed Scroll does not have reviewed notes for a passage yet, try a nearby verse or chapter.
</Note>

## Use the panel as a study flow

A common verse study flow is:

1. Read the verse in context.
2. Open the verse study panel.
3. Check cross-references and word studies.
4. Load historical context if it is available.
5. Ask the Chapter Guide when you need chapter-level clarity.
6. Write a quick reflection.
7. Create a Saved Verse Image when you want to share the verse visually.
8. Bookmark the verse with a label.
9. Turn the reflection into a full study note when it needs more room.

This keeps your reading, research, and personal response connected to the same verse.
