Compare Passages compares two passages in one translation. If you want to see one verse worded differently across several translations, use Compare Translations instead. The two features are separate and open from different places.
Open Compare Passages
Open compare mode from the Bible Reader. The reader splits into a primary pane and a comparison pane. When you first open it, the comparison pane starts on the same passage as the primary pane. Change it to whatever you want to read alongside.Selecting each passage
Each pane has its own reference picker and its own chapter navigation.- Tap a pane’s reference to choose a different book and chapter for that pane only.
- Each pane has its own next and previous chapter controls.
- Each pane scrolls independently.
Changing the active translation
Both panes always render the same translation — there is no way to put two translations side by side here. That is what Compare Translations is for. When you change your active translation while comparing, both passage references are preserved and reloaded in the new translation.Primary on Acts 8 and comparison on Esther 1, switching KJV+ to WEB, gives you Acts 8 and Esther 1 in WEB. The comparison pane does not reset to the primary passage.
Leaving and returning
Your comparison passage is kept while the reader stays open. Closing compare mode and reopening it brings your comparison passage back rather than resetting it to the primary passage. The comparison returns to the primary passage when the reader itself starts fresh — for example after restarting the app.Opening a pane in the main reader
Compare mode is a lightweight read-only layout, so verse study tools are not available inside it. Tap the open-out icon in either pane to open that passage as the main reader passage when you need to long-press a verse or use the verse study panel. Seed Scroll then shows a Back to compare action above the reader. Tapping it restores both the primary and comparison passages you had before. What QA should expect
- Both panes always show the same translation.
- Each pane navigates and scrolls independently.
- Changing translation preserves both references and reloads both in the new translation.
- A comparison pane never silently reverts to the primary passage on a translation change.
- Closing and reopening compare mode preserves the comparison passage.
- Back to compare restores both passages after opening one pane in the main reader.
